A Bengaluru Court on Friday (July 10) granted bail to actor Prakash Raj over allegations that he holds multiple voter ID cards in four states including Karnataka.

48th ACJM Jyoti Shantappa Kale allowed the bail application, subject to the condition that the actor furnishes a cash surety of Rs 4,000.

The case pertains to a private complaint filed by advocate K Dilip Kumar, alleging that the actor held voter identification cards in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, which amounts to a violation of the Representation of Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Earlier the trial court had issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against the actor on June 12, marking the third such warrant in the proceedings.

The court had initially issued summons to the actor in February 2026. When he failed to appear, the matter was posted for April, and an NBW was re-issued. A third NBW followed in June, prompting the actor to seek relief from the court.

The complaint contends that possessing voter IDs in multiple states contravenes electoral laws, which mandate that an individual can be registered as a voter only in the constituency where they ordinarily reside.
