On Wednesday (22nd December) the Centre notified the appointment of Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra as the Acting Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court (as per Article 223 of the Constitution of India) with effect from December 24.

Justice Mishra, the senior-most Judge of the Uttarakhand Pradesh High Court, will be performing the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the High Court consequent upon the retirement of Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan, Chief Justice, Uttarakhand High Court.

The Notification issued in this regard states:

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, senior-most Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court, with effect from 24.12.2021 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan, Chief Justice, Uttarakhand High Court"
