The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Central Government to resolve the anomalies that crept in the defence pay scale with the implementation of 6th Central Pay Commission.

Noting that presently personnel of the Defence from the rank of Major Generals and above are drawing lesser pay than their juniors who are Colonels and Brigadiers, Justice Fatehdeep Singh directed the Union of India to take appropriate steps in removing this anomaly.

The Bench noted that such a discrepancy in the pay scale may adversely impact the morale of the Defence Forces. Thus, it urged the Government to resolve the issue preferably within six months.

The development ensued in a writ petition filed by D.N. Asija and others.

During the course hearing, the Ministry of Defence acceded that there is an anomaly and the issue is being looked into in consolation with the Ministry of Finance and the Department of Personnel and Training. It was undertaken that the needful shall be done by resolving this anomaly within a period of two months.

Hearing this, the Court disposed of the petition.
