The Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association has urged the Registrar General of the High Court to stop automatic adjournment of bail pleas, Habeas corpus petitions and other similar matters pertaining to personal liberty of citizens.

The Association claims that since the past many months, cases are being automatically adjourned by office order due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

It is of the view that since the pandemic has receded to a great extent, therefore cases relating to bails, Habeas corpus, suspension of sentence and other cases relating to Article 21 of the Constitution of India may be listed in the month of July itself.

"The Justice seekers who are languishing in jails or facing threat to their life and liberty are suffering due to non-hearing of the cases which is resulting into denial of justice," it said in a letter addressed to the Registrar for hearing of such cases in the month of July itself.
