An ACJM Court In Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow today rejected a plea seeking an FIR against Leader Of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, over his alleged British citizenship.
In its order, ACJM Alok Verma remarked that the petition was an abuse of process of law and that the Court has no jurisdiction to decide on nationality/citizenship of any person.
"The petition is abuse of process of law, which certainly deserve to be discouraged. This court has no jurisdiction to adjudicate the question relating to citizenship or nationality of anyone...this court is of the view that present application isn't maintainable", Court's order reads.
It may be noted that his plea was filed by Karnataka BJP member S. Vignesh Shishir who alleged that Gandhi holds British national and he should face charges under the Foreigners Act, the Passport Act, and even the Official Secrets Act.
Shishir had claimed Gandhi was linked to a UK-registered company, 'Backops Limited,' and remained on London's electoral rolls even after being elected as an MP in India. He even argued he had seen Gandhi's British passport.
His claims and petition were however rejected by the Court.
