Karukka Vinoth, convicted in the Raj Bhavan petrol bomb case, attempted to throw a shoe at the sixth Additional Sessions Judge, Chennai, today, after allegedly being angry at sentence imposed on him by the NIA Court.

Vinoth was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by the NIA Court yesterday, in connection with the Raj Bhavan petrol bomb case.

When he was brought to the 6th Additional District Sessions Court today in connection with a case for attempting a similar attack at a TASMAC outlet, he attempted to throw a shoe at the Sessions Judge, Pandiarajan. Later, the judge remarked that accused persons, similar to Vinoth, could be produced before the court via video conferencing.

Raj Bhavan Petrol Bomb Attack

In 2023, Vinoth hurled petrol bombs at the Governor's residence, after allegedly being disappointed with the Governor's refusal to release some Muslim prisoners.

Considering the security threats involved, the case was transferred to the National Investigation Agency, and Vinoth was charged under Sections 124, 379, 436, 353, and 506(2) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, 1908, and Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act, 1992.

Finding Vinoth guilty, the Special Court for NIA Cases at Poonamallee sentenced him to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5000.
