SC Collegium Recommends Elevation Of 10 Lawyers And One Judicial Officer As Allahabad HC Judges [Read Resolutions]

The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the elevation of 10 advocates and 1 judicial officer as judges of Allahabad High Court.

The names of recommended lawyers are :

1. Vipin Chandra Dixit,
2. Ramanand Pandey
3. Shekhar Kumar Yadav,
4. Ravi Nath Tilhari,
5. Deepak Verma,
6. Gautam Chaudhary,
7. Manish Kumar,
8. Vivek Ratan Agrawal,
9. Samit Gopal,
10. Alok Kumar Yadav

Also, the Collegium comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices A K Sikri and S A Bobde has recommended the elevation of judicial officer Ali Zamin, whose proposal was earlier deferred on October 31 for taking more inputs.

While making the recommendation on February 12, the Collegium made a significant observation that the prescribed minimum limit of Rs. 7 lakhs as net annual professional income has been relaxed in cases of persons belonging to SC/ST/OBC and those representing government in the capacity of panel lawyers. This relaxation to a "reasonable extent" was made after the Collegium noted that certain persons in the list were having net professional income below the minimum limit. 

The High Court collegium had forwarded the names of 33 advocates, out of which 17 were accepted by the Supreme Court collegium earlier on September 24.  The rest 16 names were deferred then.

Manish Goyal, one among the deferred 16, informed on November 19 that he was withdrawing his consent. Therefore, his merits were not evaluated by the SC collegium.

The consideration of the file of Dinesh Pathak has been deferred for the time being for getting more reports/comments from HC CJ on certain "unconfirmed inputs"

The names of Vivek Prasad Mathur, Sudeep Kumar, Sunil Kumar (Mishra), and Ashish Pandey, were remitted to the High Court.
