The Supreme Court on Tuesday (August 4) extended the term of Mr. O.P. Gupta, a judicial member of the Delhi State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. Mr. Gupta's term expired on 23.07.2020. The extension was granted pursuant to the application filed by the Delhi State and District Consumer Courts Practitioner's Welfare Association. 

The Bench, comprising Chief Justice L. Nageshwara Rao and Justice S Ravindra Bhat, expressing their astonishment on the present inadequacy of members in the commission, directed for extension of Mr. Gupta's tenure for 6 months.

Mr. OP Gupta has served the Delhi Judicial and Higher Judicial Service in the capacity of Metropolitan Magistrate, Additional Rent Controller, MACT and later as Presiding Officer (Labour Court), Special Judge (NDPS), Additional District Judge, Judge In-Charge (Mediation Cell). He was appointed as District Judge in 2011. Mr. Gupta later served as Member (Judicial) in the Municipal Taxation Tribunal, Delhi and later became a Member (Judicial) in the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Delhi.

The association was represented by advocates - Mr. Anuj Chauhan, Ms. Apoorva Saxena and Mr. Manish Raghav.
