The Supreme Court slapped costs on a litigant for filing incorrect translation of a Rajasthan High Court judgment impugned in the Special Leave Petition filed by him.
The bench comprising Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre and Justice Dinesh Maheshwari asked the petitioner to pay a cost of Rs. 25,000.
However, subject to payment of costs, the bench permitted the petitioner to file a fresh petition questioning the legality of the impugned judgment provided a proper and correct English translation of the impugned judgment is filed within a period of two weeks.
Justice Mahendra Maheshwari of Rajasthan High Court had delivered his judgment in a Second Appeal in Hindi [Read below]. There are a few judges who write their judgments in Hindi in Rajasthan.
The Supreme Court problem with languages is nothing new. In November, last year, it had directed the Registrars General of all High Courts to furnish the translation of the Original Records in English language from vernacular language wherever required, while transmitting the original records.
