A bench of Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manmohan granted the extension on the request made by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta who apprised the bench that the draft affidavits are prepared however, he himself is not satisfied with the drafts.
“We want something that can be replicated in the rest of the country,” Mehta submitted.
Senior Advocate Liz Mathew, appearing as Amicus in the matter, submitted that she would need another week to analyse the report after it is filed.
On this, Justice Pardiwala stressed on the quality of the reply. “Reply should be meaningful,” Justice Pardiwala said.
“If the Solicitor General is not satisfied with the reply they have prepared, the whole exercise will be futile,” remarked Justice Pardiwala.
The bench, therefore, directed that a meaningful and exhaustive reply be filed by November 23. Allowing Amicus time to analyse the reply, the matter will next be heard on December 02.
The Court had earlier issued a slew of directions to make public spaces safe for women in the National Capital.
