The Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TSLSA) has announced that a total of 4,20,626 cases were amicably settled during the 3rd National Lok Adalat conducted across the State on September 12, 2026, including in the High Court for the State of Telangana. The Lok Adalat was held under the guidance of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Patron-in-Chief of TSLSA, Justice P. Sam Koshy, Executive Chairman of TSLSA, and Justice K. Lakshman, Chairman of the High Court Legal Services Committee.

According to the TSLSA, the National Lok Adalat was organized pursuant to directions issued by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) for settlement of pending and pre-litigation disputes, including consumer and labour matters. A total of 340 Lok Adalat Benches were constituted across Telangana, including benches in the High Court and the Debt Recovery Tribunals at Hyderabad.

The Authority stated that extensive awareness programmes were undertaken by District Legal Services Authorities to encourage litigants to opt for amicable dispute resolution through the Lok Adalat mechanism. Chairpersons and Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities conducted outreach programmes through print and electronic media and organized pre-Lok Adalat sittings involving advocates, litigants and police officials to facilitate settlements, particularly in long-pending civil and criminal cases.

Justice P. Sam Koshy interacted with Principal District Judges-cum-Chairpersons and Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities across the State and issued directions aimed at achieving a higher number of settlements than the previous National Lok Adalat. The Director of Prosecution also issued instructions to Public Prosecutors across Telangana to extend cooperation in facilitating settlements through Lok Adalat benches.

As per the data released by TSLSA, out of the total 4,20,626 cases settled, 2,78,335 were pre-litigation cases and 1,40,565 were pending court cases. The settlements resulted in compensation amounting to ₹266 crore being awarded to beneficiaries in various matters.

Highlighting notable settlements, the Authority stated that in a motor accident compensation claim arising from a road accident that occurred on July 6, 2016, involving a truck bearing registration number AP 05 TU 9198, Shriram General Insurance Company Limited agreed to pay ₹5 crore as full and final compensation to the family of deceased M. Ravi Kumar. The settlement was reached through mediation, and the compensation cheque was handed over in the presence of the Chief Judge, City Civil Court, Hyderabad.

In another motor accident compensation matter, the same insurer agreed to pay ₹1.75 crore in connection with the death of M. Narendra Kumar, who died in a road accident involving the same truck.

The TSLSA further stated that two Lok Adalat benches were constituted in the High Court for the State of Telangana under the leadership of Justice K. Sujana and Justice Narsing Rao Nandikonda. During the National Lok Adalat, 182 cases pending before the High Court were amicably settled. The settlement of motor accident compensation and other cases resulted in compensation of ₹14.81 crore being awarded to claimants.

Member Secretary of TSLSA, Ch. Panchakshari, appealed to litigants, advocates and stakeholders to make effective use of Lok Adalats for speedy, amicable and cost-effective resolution of disputes, stating that the mechanism advances access to justice and reduces prolonged litigation.
