The Bombay High Court on Thursday asked the Municipal Corporation of Greater Bombay to file a short affidavit regarding the number of bedridden and immobile individuals who have been vaccinated since such a drive to vaccinated them started.

The Bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice G. S. Kulkarni ordered thus while persuing the "State Policy for Covid-19 Vaccination for Bedridden and Immobile Individuals".

It was submitted before the Court by the State Government that such a drive to vaccinate bedridden and immobile individuals had been started by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and to date, no adverse incidents have been reported.

The Municipal corporation submitted that 602 of the 4715 citizens, who registered for home vaccination, have been successfully vaccinated to date.

Importantly, the petitioner in person brought to the notice of the Court certain areas which need improvements; she submitted that it was not unlikely that private doctors could be reluctant to certify that an individual is fit for vaccination or that he/she may not suffer Adverse Effects Following Immunization (AEFI).

She also submitted that as an alternate option, the policy ought to permit the doctors of the Municipal Corporation to so certify upon examination of the concerned individual's physical condition.

Further, while expressing reservations about the participation of NGOs in the vaccination drive, as reported by the media, she sought a clarification from the Municipal Corporation about the role of the NGOs.

Having heard her submission, the Court directed the State Government to consider her submissions and implement the same if found appropriate.

Lastly, the Court directed the Municipal corporation:

"to file a short affidavit indicating therein the number of bedridden and immobile individuals who have been vaccinated since the drive started and whether AEFI was felt by any individual. The Municipal Corporation shall also indicate the exact role of the NGOs in such drives in its affidavit.

The Court has asked for such an affidavit by August 11 and listed the matter for August 12.
