The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday gave an oral assurance to the Delhi High Court that it will not execute till January 9 the production warrant issued against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal by a trial court here in a money laundering case relating to West Bengal cattle smuggling case.

Justice Jasmeet Singh posted Mondal's plea assailing the order passed by city's Rouse Avenue courts for producing him here, for January 9, 2023. Mondal is presently lodged in Asansol jail in the matter.

The production warrant was issued by the trial court against Mondal on December 19 on an application moved by ED.

The TMC leader was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 11. A money laundering case was thereafter registered by ED based on CBI's FIR.

As per the FIR registered by CBI, Mondal along with other persons including public servants, was involved in a multi-crore cattle smuggling racket.

It is the CBI's case that profits obtained from alleged cattle smuggling were used to buy various properties by Mondal. ED, on the other hand, is investigating the case linked to alleged money laundering of the proceeds obtained from cattle smuggling.
