Woman Assaults Civil Judge, Advocates Inside Karnataka Courtroom; FIR Registered

A woman allegedly attacked a sitting civil judge on Thursday (July 30) and several advocates during ongoing proceedings at the JMFC Court in Sira in Tumakuru district of Karnataka.

The accused person in the FIR allegedly entered the courtroom of Principal Senior Civil Judge during proceedings and slapped the judge, followed by attacks on multiple advocates.

As per the complaint registered, the incident occurred on July 30, 2026, at approximately 12:30 PM, when the accused, identified as Manjamma DK, a resident of Dwarakanakunte Village in Sira Taluk, allegedly barged into the first-floor courtroom of Principal Senior Civil Judge when the proceedings were underway.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Sira Police Station, the woman entered the courtroom while the judge was conducting proceedings in Court Hall 4 and suddenly slapped the judge on her cheek. The accused then got down and slapped another lady advocate on her cheeks.

Seeing this, when a few other lawyers tried to restrain the woman, she allegedly slapped them as well. The accused was immediately apprehended and handed over to the police

The FIR has been registered under Section 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), Section 132 (assault on a public servant), and Section 267 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The complaint was filed by Shivanna, who serves as the Senior Sheristedar (Head Ministerial Officer) at the Principal Senior Civil Judge & JMFC Court, Sira.

The FIR states that the complainant had obtained prior permission from the District Judge and the Principal Senior Civil Judge before approaching the police station to file the report.

Police have initiated investigation in the matter.
