A circular has been issued by the District and Sessions Judge of the New Delhi District asking all employees to henceforth apply for leaves in Hindi only.

District and Sessions Judge Poonam Bamba has issued the circular which is also in Hindi.

It asks employees of all grades to henceforth give their leave applications in Hindi.

This, the circular says, is a step towards promoting the use of Hindi language in day-to-day official work of the court and to develop an interest in using the language for court work.

This circular comes close to the Hindi Diwas which is celebrated on September 14 every year.

It is to be noted that President Ramnath Kovind had also emphasised on use of local language in courts for ease of litigants with judgments being provided in local or regional languages.

The district courts in Delhi have been trying to promote use of Hindi with various measures.

Early this year, the staff at Karkardooma district court was trained to type in Hindi.

Another circular issued in January asked employees to use Hindi for official work.
