The India’s Trade Promotion Organization has come to the rescue of lawyers practicing in the Supreme Court by agreeing to provide parking space to accommodate almost 300 vehicles.
The issue of parking woes was raised in a public interest litigation filed in 2000 by Indian Council of Legal Aid and Advice. Thereafter, the Court had directed the Delhi government to take required steps. The Court on December 5, 2014 had also asked the Centre to consider allowing lawyers to park their vehicles in vacant plots around the Court premises.
It had also asked Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar to put across a proposal to the Urban Development Ministry so that lawyers may be allowed to park their vehicles in the area which is presently managed by IPTO.
The Bench headed by Justice V Gopala Gowda has now accepted the submission made by IPTO, which has agreed to provide the parking space. SCBA President Sr. Advocate Mr. Dushyant Dave also expressed “gratitude” towards the Bench.
The PIL had also sought construction of automatic multi-level parking, now stands disposed, with directions to authorities to comply with earlier Court orders.
