The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the appointment of five Judicial officers as judges of Karnataka High Court.
The collegium comprising Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice MB Lokur had the names of six Judicial Officers before it. It, however, noted that one of the officers, Mr. Kokkengada Bheemayya Changappa was already 61 years old and hence, would have a really short tenure on the bench, which it opined “would not serve the desired purpose”.
It also took into account complaints received against two other recommendees, but noted that it did not find any prima facie substance in these complaints. It thereafter recommended the following five officers to be appointed as High Court judges:
- Ashok Golappa Nijagannavar,
- Hethur Puttaswamy Gowda Sandesh,
- Krishnan Natarajan,
- Pralhadrao Govindrao Mutalik Patil, and
- Appasaheb Shantappa Bellunke
However, in another resolution passed on the same day, it remitted the proposal of two Advocates, B.N.Maheshwara and Arun Kumar Krishnan, back to the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court.
