The Supreme Court collegium has recommended four names for elevation to Bombay High Court. The names of four judicial officers, S.M. Modak,  N.J. Jamadar,  V.G.Joshi, and  R.G. Avachat were recommended. The recommendation is as per resolution taken on September 11.

It was stated their suitability was ascertained on consultation with SC judges who were conversant with the affairs of Bombay High Court. The Collegium also  scrutinized the material placed in the file including the observations made by the Department of Justice and found them to be suitable.

The Bombay High Court collegium had recommended names of six judicial officers - S.M. Modak,  N.J. Jamadar, P.V. Ganediwala  V.G.Joshi, S.B. Agrawal and  R.G. Avachat .

Regarding P.V Ganediwala and S B Agarwal, the SC collegium said that their case deserved to be deferred for some time. It was stated that the proposal would be taken up for consideration by the Collegium after some time.

The SC collegium also took note of the fact that certain senior judicial officers were not recommended by the High Court collegium. However, the SC collegium expressed satisfaction of the reasons recorded by HC Collegium for not recommending senior judicial officers. The SC collegium further expressed that certain complaints received against the recommendees were found to be devoid of merits on examination.

The recommendation has been made in the order (1) S.M. Modak, (2) N.J. Jamadar, (3) V.G. Joshi, and (4) R.G. Avachat. Their inter-se seniority will be fixed as per existing practise.
