The Supreme Court has issued a notice seeking the Centre’s response on the proposal for declaring the result of a parliamentary constituency as a whole and not through ward-wise. A bench led by Justice Dipak Misra demanded a response from the Centre and posted the matter for July 7.

Earlier the Supreme Court has asked for Election Commission’s (EC) response on this plea. The EC has raised objection on ward-wise declaration of vote count in election and has also asked the Centre to amend the rule to do away with declaration of result of every polling booth

The Court was hearing Public Interest Litigation filed by Advocate Yogesh Gupta, for declaration of the election result for the entire constituency as a whole. He has raised concern over the right of privacy, as the ward wise declaration gives a clear picture to the political parties about their winning and loosing of votes in that particular ward.
