In the wake of the outrage sparked by a video clip showing a Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court threatening a junior advocate with police custody, the Andhra Pradesh High Court Advocates Association has written to the Chief Justice of the High Court, appealing that the matter not be escalated further, as the issue has been amicably resolved.

While condemning the Judge's conduct, the Association stated that the issue had already been “resolved amicably” through the intervention of the Association.

In a letter dated May 6 addressed to the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the Association said the incident, which occurred on May 4 during court proceedings before Justice Tarlada Rajasekhar Rao, had caused concern within the legal fraternity. However, it stated that the matter was immediately brought to the notice of the Association's committee and was peacefully settled “to the satisfaction of everyone involved.”

The Association further said that the advocate concerned had neither filed any complaint nor wished to pursue the matter further, as he valued the relationship between the Bar and the Bench. "Both sides have moved on, the situation on the ground is peaceful," the Association stated.

Referring to the circulation of the footage online, the Association cautioned against drawing conclusions solely on the basis of social media clips. It said the material shared online did not reflect the complete picture and omitted the fact that the issue had already been resolved by the time it spread on social media.

“Social media rarely captures the complete truth, and acting on it without verification can do more harm than good,” the Association stated, expressing concern that reactions based on incomplete information could disturb the harmony between the Bar and the Bench.

The Association, through the letter by its President Prabhunath Vasireddy, also urged the Chief Justice that if any further steps were to be considered in the matter, they should be taken only after examining the “full and correct picture” and not merely on the basis of material circulating online.

The Association's response comes in the wake of the demands made by the Bar Council of India and the Supreme Court Bar Association for the intervention of the Chief Justice of India.
