The Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on Monday said that Justice Rajendra Menon, former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, has been recommended as the Chairperson of the Armed Forces Tribunal.

This was told by the CJI in a suo moto petition regarding the appointment of judicial members in AFT.

The incumbent Chairperson Justice Virender Singh is retiring on October 6.

The Attorney General K K Venugopal informed that the provisions of Finance Act regarding appointment procedure to members of Tribunals is under challenge, and that the appointments be deferred until the matter is decided.

The CJI however did not agree and directed that the appointment be cleared. On this, the AG assured that the Committee will clear the proposal for appointment of Justice Rajendra Menon.
