CJI Surya Kant Reconstitutes Supreme Court's Artificial Intelligence Committee; Justice PS Narasimha To Lead

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has reconstituted the Supreme Court's “Artificial Intelligence Committee”, assigning it the task of guiding the adoption, development, and deployment of artificial intelligence tools across the Supreme Court and the subordinate judiciary.

The reconstituted committee will be chaired by Justice P. S. Narasimha, Judge of the Supreme Court of India. Its members include Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court; Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V., Judge of the Kerala High Court; Justice Anoop Chitkara, Judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court; and Justice Suraj Govindaraj, Judge of the Karnataka High Court.

Mr. Anupam Patra, OSD (Registrar) (Technology) of the Supreme Court, will serve as the Member-Secretary and Convenor of the Committee. Mr. Ashish J. Shiradhonkar, Member (Systems) of the eCommittee of the Supreme Court, has been designated as a Special Invitee.

The AI Committee will continue to play a central role in shaping technological transformation within the judicial system. Its mandate includes overseeing ongoing and future AI-based initiatives aimed at improving efficiency, strengthening accessibility for litigants, and enhancing transparency in court processes. The move underscores the Supreme Court's commitment to leveraging emerging technologies responsibly to modernise the justice delivery system.
