The Central Government has notified the transfer of Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari from Allahabad High Court to Madras High Court pursuant to the recommendation made by the Supreme Court collegium.

Yesterday, the Centre had notified the transfer of the Chief Justice of Madras High Court Sanjib Banerjee to Meghalaya High Court.

The proposals for the transfers of Justice Banerjee and Justice Bhandari were made by the Supreme Court collegium on the same day, September 16. However, the collegium resolution was published only on November 9.

Justice Bhandari hails from Rajasthan High Court, where he was appointed as a judge on July 5, 2007. He joined the Allahabad High Court upon transfer on March 15, 2019. He was the Acting Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court from June 26, 2021 till October 11, 2021 when Justice Rajesh Bindal took charge as the Chief Justice.

At the Madras High Court, Justice Bhandari will be the senior most judge.
