A Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court is hearing petitions challenging the Bombay HC verdict which upheld reservations given to Marathas in jobs and education under Maharashtra Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) Act, 2018
Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan fixes the matter on 5th February for directions.
Justice Bhushan: We will hear all of you on the next date and then issue directions accordingly.
All Counsels: Obliged.
Sibal: I join in with my friend on this request as no prejudice will be caused due to the stay order.
Justice Bhushan: We don’t plan on beginning on 25th. We will take a call after two weeks, if the matter should be heard virtually or physically.
Rohatgi: There is a 6-8 weeks of delay in the elderly getting the vaccine. I request you to take it up when it is listed, on Monday. We have conferred with our clients & they agree.
Sr. Adv. Kapil Sibal: I join in with my friend on this issue.
Rohatgi: We are aware that there is an interim order operating against the State of Maharashtra. Despite that, we are seeking for this. We are not entering into merits or anything right now.
Rohatgi: We are lawyers scattered in different places and there are huge records. But, it is difficult to argue over virtual hearing.
