The central government has appointed Ravneet Kaur, a 1998 Punjab cadre IAS officer, as the Chairperson of the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

She is the first woman in India to be appointed to this position and will serve for a period of five years or until reaching the age of 65.

Since the retirement of Ashok Kumar Gupta in October,2022 the position of CCI Chairperson has remained vacant. Sangeeta Verma had been fulfilling the role of acting Chairperson in the interim.

The goals of the Competition Act, 2002 are aimed at being accomplished through the establishment of the CCI, which was set up by the Central Government on 14th October 2003.

The Commission comprises a Chairperson and six Members who are appointed by the Central Government.
