The Supreme Court order passed after the special sitting held earlier today is out.
Though the bench consisted of the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, the order has been passed and signed by the other two judges viz. Justice Arun Mishra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna. The record of proceedings also does not feature his name in the Coram.
The order reads:
"Having considered the matter, we refrain from passing any judicial order at this moment leaving it to the wisdom of the media to show restraint, act responsibly as is expected from them and accordingly decide what should or should not be published as wild and scandalous allegations undermine and irreparably damage reputation and negate independence of judiciary. We would therefore at this juncture leave it to the media to take off such material which is undesirable."
During the sitting, the CJI said that he believes there is a bigger plot behind this to 'deactivate the office of CJI.' The special sitting was convened after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned the matter. The court said that an 'appropriate Bench' will hear this issue.
