Chief Justice of India (CJI) S.A Bobde on Tuesday expressed his displeasure at unjustified allegations against judges of the higher judiciary.

The bench led by the CJ was hearing a matter where the counsel wrongfully alleged that a former Bombay High Court judge had subsequent to his retirement appeared before the trial court in the case.
"Oh, a Bombay High court judge, after retirement, appeared in a trial court? Show us?", asked the CJ.
"We will impose heavy costs on you if your statement is found to be incorrect", he warned.
Ultimately, the counsel clarified that the said the High Court  judge had advanced consultation acting under which another advocate had appeared before the court.
"So there is no difference between chamber practice and appearing before the court? You are an advocate and you don't understand this difference?", demanded the CJ.
"How much cost should we impose on you now? Absurd arguments we have to hear! Allegations against former judges of this court for no reason! ", the CJ observed sternly.
Finally, the bench dismissed the petition, abstaining from imposing any costs when the counsel advanced that the matter in she was appearing was a legal aid matter.
