In a significant development, the Supreme Court's collegium has agreed to the request of Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya of Calcutta High Court regarding her transfer to a different Court. The transfer was sought for personal reasons. As per the notification released yesterday (on February 13th), Justice Bhattacharya has now been transferred to the High Court of Telangana.

The notification reads as:

By a communication dated 12 February 2024, Ms Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya has sought a transfer from the High Court at Calcutta to any other High Court for personal reasons.

The Collegium accedes to the request and resolves to recommend that Ms Justice Moushumi Bhattacharya be transferred, in the interests of the better administration of justice, to the High Court for the State of Telangana.”

The notification has been signed by the collegium members ie., CJI Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud, Justices Sanjiv Khanna, B R Gavai, Surya Kant and Aniruddha Bose.
