In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pet project, the Digital India initiative, two paperless e-Courts began functioning in Uttar Pradesh from Monday.
While one e-Court will function from Allahabad, under the aegis of Justice Anjani Kumar, the second has been established at Lucknow, and will be presided over by Justice Vivek Chaudhary.
According to Justice Dilip Gupta, Chairman of the Computer Committee of Allahabad High Court, three jurisdictions have been identified for the e-Courts for now. These are company matters, revisions under Section 115 of the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC) and transfer applications under Section 24 of the CPC.
These e-Courts will reportedly use digitized records, with approximately 5000 case files having been digitized already. Besides, these Courts will also have an electronic case list, known as e-case list, before the presiding Judge.
