ABOUT THE ORGANIZERS

National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam is a National Law University located in Guwahati, Assam, India. It was established in 2009 through an Act passed by the State Legislature of Assam as a public university dedicated to the field of legal education.

The Centre for Child Rights (CCR), is one of the specialised centres of NLUJAA, which aims to address issues relating to children. The Centre for Child Rights was officially inaugurated on 14th March, 2015. Ever since, the Centre has engaged itself in various activities ranging from training, workshops, conferences, development of IEC materials, technical support to various allied departments of the government dealing with children, etc.

UNICEF according to its Charter and Mission Statement, works with the Government of India, State Governments, Civil Society Organizations and other partners worldwide to advocate and realize children's rights to survival, protection, development and participation, which are the guiding principles of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). On 1st June, 2015, Centre for Child Rights established a partnership with UNICEF, Assam through a "Memorandum of Understanding" signed between National Law University and Judicial Academy and UNICEF, Assam to strengthen their relationship and their shared commitment to promote, protect and fulfil the rights of the children in the state of Assam and other parts of North East India.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Under the guidance of our patron, Prof. (Dr.) V. K. Ahuja, the hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, NLUJAA, the Centre for Child Rights of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam in collaboration with the UNICEF Assam and North-East feels great delight in announcing National Webinar Series on Child Rights. The first webinar of this series will be held on 7th September, 2021 via Google Meet from 3 pm onwards. There will be speech on, "Role of UNICEF in the Protection and Promotion of Child Rights" by Laxminarayan Nanda Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF Assam and NE. Thereafter, Prof. (Dr.) Ved Kumari, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University, Odisha will deliver the first lecture of this series on the topic: Juvenile Justice Act, 2015: Implementation and Efficacy.

Please note that the webinar is open to all. Prior registration and attending the event is required for issuing of certificate of participation.
