The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday declined urgent hearing in a plea challenging the freezing of bank accounts of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), after Senior Advocate Kishore Datta sought priority in the matter.

Mentioning the case before the Bench, Datta submitted, "If some precedence can be given, milord, this concerns the freezing of the bank accounts of a political party. it is extremely urgent."

The Court responded that the matter would be taken up in due course, as it was listed in the cause list.

Appearing for the Union of India, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Court that he had received the papers only the previous day and sought time to obtain instructions.

"Can it be day after?" Mehta requested, adding that he would face a personal difficulty the following day and that the Additional Advocate General could appear on his behalf if necessary.

The Court, however, declined to assign a specific date, observing, "I will not fix it, let it come."

It further directed that the matter retain its place in the cause list, adding that Mehta's junior could seek accommodation if the case was called out in his absence.
