The Calcutta High Court has extended the interim bail granted to Milan Pradhan, who is facing charges in a 2007 Nandigram violence case, till November 25, 2026.
Justice Partha Pratim Roy extended the interim bail, which was initially granted by a coordinate bench on September 29 for three weeks, following the Supreme Court's order granting Pradhan liberty to seek an extension of interim bail or regular bail before the High Court.
The Court directed Pradhan to surrender before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Haldia, on November 27, 2026. The conditions imposed by the coordinate bench while granting interim bail will continue to apply.
The extension was granted after the Supreme Court, on October 7, disposed of the State's Special Leave Petition against the earlier interim bail order, granting Pradhan liberty to approach the High Court for extension of interim bail or regular bail.
Pradhan had approached the High Court challenging an order dated September 21, 2026, passed by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Haldia, in connection with Nandigram Police Station Case No. 9 of 2007.
The case was registered under Sections 147, 148, 149, 323, 325, 326, 307, 379, 384, 436 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, along with Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act, 1959.
On September 29, a coordinate bench granted him interim bail upon furnishing a bond of ₹20,000 with two sureties of ₹10,000 each, one of whom was required to be a local resident. The relief was initially valid until October 20, with a direction to surrender before the jurisdictional court on October 21.
The State subsequently challenged the interim bail order before the Supreme Court through a Special Leave Petition.
Following the Supreme Court's order dated October 7, Pradhan moved the High Court seeking an extension of the interim bail.
After hearing his counsel and considering the earlier order granting interim relief, Justice Roy extended the protection until November 25 and directed him to surrender two days later.
