Calcutta High Court Holds Urgent Sunday Sitting To Hear Plea By Abhishek Banerjee-Linked Company Against Demolition Of His TMC Party Office
The Calcutta High Court is set to hear an urgent writ petition filed by Leaps and Bounds challenging the demolition of its immovable property at Amtala, housing TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee's party office, alleging that the action undertaken by the authorities was "gross, malicious and illegal."
The matter has been specially listed today before Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury after being assigned by the Acting Chief Justice on Sunday morning.
According to the petitioner, the demolition was carried out by the authorities in an arbitrary and unlawful manner. Through the writ petition, Leaps and Bounds has sought the Court's intervention against the impugned demolition action.
The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) has been arrayed as a proforma respondent in the proceedings, as a party office of the political party is situated on the property in question.
Senior Advocate Kishore Dutta is appearing on behalf of Leaps and Bounds, while Senior Advocate Ayan Bhattacherjee is representing the All India Trinamool Congress.
Upon taking up the matter, the bench directed the petitioners to complete fresh service on the state respondents and adjourned the hearing till 1:30pm.
