Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former Deputy Mayor of Kolkata Atin Ghosh has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a land corruption case in which the Bidhannagar North Police Station has summoned both him and his daughter, Priyadarshini Ghosh.

Apart from seeking anticipatory bail, Ghosh has also challenged the police action of issuing a summons in the matter before the High Court.

The matter was mentioned on Tuesday before Justice Suvra Ghosh by Senior Advocate Ayan Bhattacherjee, appearing for Ghosh, seeking urgent permission to move the plea.

During the mentioning, Bhattacherjee submitted that Ghosh and his family had been falsely implicated in the alleged land corruption case. He further contended that the investigating agency was harassing the family, including a member who is undergoing treatment for cancer.

In view of the circumstances, the Senior Counsel urged the Court to grant an early hearing of the matter.

Justice Ghosh permitted the petition to be filed. The matter is expected to be taken up for hearing later this week.
