Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge Sworn-In As Chief Justice Of Calcutta High Court

Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge has been sworn-in as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday. The oath of office was administered by the Governor of West Bengal RN Ravi.

Justice Ghuge had been serving as the Acting Chief Justice of Bombay High Court, and was recommended to take office as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium, whose recommendation was acted on by the Law Minstry on Monday.

Justice Ghuge takes over from Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty, who was officiating as Acting Chief Justice after the retirement of Justice Sujoy Paul in June this year.

Reflecting on his journey as a first-generation lawyer, Justice Ghuge stated, "To have journeyed from the seat of my bicycle to the seat of this majestic Calcutta High Court is testament to our great democracy. It proves that hardwork, sincerity and unwavering dedication can truly bridge the gap between humble beginnings and the highest honours. To the young members of the bar, I hope my journey serves as a reminder that while the initial path may be steep and unforgiving, the law is deeply just in its rewards."
