Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a defamation suit before the Delhi High Court seeking removal of objectionable content against him on social media.

The matter was heard briefly on Tuesday (December 2) by Justice Amit Bansal who asked Choudhary to implead the uploaders of the content as defendants in his suit.

Choudhary's counsel informed the Court that the objectionable content with sexual undertones was uploaded on social media, over allegations that he has a relationship with a woman.

The Court was apprised that most of the impugned content dates back to two years, and that most of the URLs related to publications by news agencies.

During the hearing, Justice Bansal said that he was “puzzled” reading the suit as no transcript was filed regarding the recordings and videos mentioned in the plaint.

How can this court determine if the content is defamatory or not?,” the judge remarked.

Accordingly, the Court directed Choudhary to file the relevant transcripts, while listing the matter for hearing next on January 13, 2026.

The social media platforms, Google LLC and Meta Platforms, have been asked to provide details of the Facebook pages and YouTube channels, who have uploaded the impugned content, to Choudhary.
