The Delhi High Court on Tuesday (September 1) issued notice on Jammu Kashmir National Conference Member of Parliament (MP) Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi against restriction on access to his Facebook account, alleging that the same was done without providing him with any notice. 

The counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma that Mehdi is a member of parliament whose access to his Facebook page has been completely restricted by the impugned order. 

Meanwhile counsel for Meta Platforms submitted that the page was taken down pursuant to a law enforcement agency's notice and sought some time to produce that. 

Mehdi's counsel said that he had not been given any information regarding such an order and that there is a greivance redressal system which Meta is supposed to follow as per the Information Technology Rules.

He said that Mehdi had sent a representation to the grievance redressal officer and Meta was required to respond in 24 hours, however they had not done so.  He also said that nobody has pointed out the offending material on his page.

After hearing the parties the court issued notice and asked the respondents to file their replies.

The matter is listed on September 30.
