Bollywood Actor Kriti Sanon Moves Delhi High Court Seeking Protection Of Her Personality Rights
Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon moved the Delhi High Court on Friday seeking protection of her personality rights.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav asked the actor's counsel, Advocate Pravin Anand, to file a compilation of relevant judgments and other research material on the issue of personality rights.
At the outset, the Court questioned Anand as to what all will be included or falls within the parameters of personality rights.
Anand responded that personality rights includes a person's voice, face, image or a photo or video of someone's face, including name of the individual.
He also said that personality rights will include commercialization using someone's face for monetary gains without consent or authorisation.
“Can you give me some research paper? Please give a compilation…. Give me judgments and your understanding regarding personality rights,” the Court said, adding that a comprehensive order will then be passed after perusing the material.
Anand told Court that the compilation will be filed today and that there is no jurisdictional issue involved in the matter.
The case will now be heard on October 29.
It may be noted that the Court has been protecting the personality rights of actress Kangana Ranaut, Tabu, actor Vijay Devarkonda, cricketers Abhishek Sharma and Yuvraj Singh, political figures like Congress leader Shashi Tharoor and Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Pawan Kalyan.
It has also protected rights of entrepreneur Aman Gupta, Telugu actor Allu Arjun, Malayalam actor Mohanlal, spiritual preacher Aniruddhacharya, singer Jubin Nautiyal, former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, and actors Kajol Devgan, R Madhavan and NTR Junior. Similar suit has been filed by actor Salman Khan.
The coordinate benches have also passed orders protecting the personality rights of “The Art of Living” foundation founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Telugu actor Nagarjuna, Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and film producer Karan Johar.
Notably, the Court also protected the personality rights of journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, who had sought relief regarding the circulation of allegedly misleading and AI-generated videos against him on social media.
