Student Activist Sues Sudhir Chaudhary Over Allegedly Defamatory News Broadcast During CJP Protest
A defamation case has been filed by a 20 year old activist and UPSC aspirant before the Delhi High Court against journalist Sudhir Chaudhary over his broadcast published on July 27 on his daily prime time show “Decode” on DD News.
Justice Subramonium Prasad issued notice on the interim injunction plea filed by Vijay Sherawat and sought response of Chaudhary and the news channel.
Sherawat's counsel informed the Court that the suit has been filed for false identification and defamation of the plaintiff.
The suit seeks an injunction to restrain the defendants from telecasting, hosting, publishing, circulating or disseminating the telecast hosted on July 27, alleging the same to be defamatory.
As per Sherawat, the impugned telecast gives an imputation that during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest, he made statements to the effect of destroying the Parliament and threatening to turn India into Nepal.
It is his case that he never made such statements and that wrong statement is being attributed to him by the defendants, without any scant regard of the correct facts.
The Court ordered that the plaint be registered as a suit and issued notice on the interim application seeking take down of the broadcast.
The Court listed the matter for hearing on September 22, and said that it is expected that Chaudhary and the news channel will be ready on the next date for advancing arguments on interim relief.
