On February 5, Justice Vijay Bishnoi sworn in as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court.

The Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria administered the oath of office to Justice Bishnoi. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary and several other dignitaries were present at the oath taking ceremony held at Raj Bhavan.

It is to be noted that the Supreme Court Collegium vide its resolution dated December 27, 2023 recommended the name of Justice Vijay Bishnoi to be the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court as the vacancy was arisen on elevation of Justice Sandeep Mehta to the Supreme Court.

The Central Government vide notification dated February 2, 2024 appointed Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Judge of the Rajasthan High Court to be the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.

Justice Bishnoi was appointed as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court on January 8, 2013. Before his elevation as a Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, he practised at the Rajasthan High Court and the Central Administrative Tribunal at Jodhpur. His area of practice was civil, criminal, Constitutional, service and election cases.
