Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Permanent Judges For Uttarakhand And Gauhati High Courts
The Supreme Court Collegium on Wednesday (September 23) recommended permanent appointment of Justice Kaushik Goswami, Additional Judge of Gauhati High Court. The stated:
"The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on 23rd September 2026, has approved the proposal for appointment of Shri Justice Kaushik Goswami, Additional Judge as Permanent Judge of the Gauhati High Court".
The Collegium also recommended permanent appointment for Justice Subhash Upadhyay, Additional Judge of Uttarakhand High Court. Its resolution stated:
"The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on 23rd September 2026, has approved the proposal for appointment of Shri Justice Subhash Upadhyay, Additional Judge as Permanent Judge of the High Court of Uttarakhand".
About Justice Goswami
Justice Goswami obtained Bachelor of Law (L.L.B) from ILS, University of Pune and enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh on 27.07.2000.
Prior to his elevation, Justice Goswami worked as Standing Counsel for Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Haflong and the Gauhati High Court from 28.1.2013 till 2022. Appointed as Additional Senior Government Advocate of the Gauhati High Court from 31.05.2021 to 28.07.2022.
He was empaneled as Amicus Curiae of the Gauhati High Court. Was Panel Advocate for The Official Liquidator, (Attached to the Gauhati High Court). Designated as Senior Advocate vide notification dated 19.05.2022 by the Gauhati High Court.
He was elevated as as an Additional Judge of the Gauhati High Court on 2.11.2023 and took oath on 10.11.2023.
About Justice Upadhyay
Justice Upadhyay completed his B.Sc., L.L.B. and Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Lucknow University.
Justice Upadhyay enrolled as an Advocate in 1998 and started practice at the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court in Civil, Constitutional and Service matters.
After creation of the State of Uttarakhand, Justice Upadhyay started practice at Uttarakhand High Court at Nainital. He was appointed as Brief Holder for the State of Uttarakhand in 2002 and was appointed Standing counsel for the State of Uttarakhand in 2012.
Justice Upadhyay was appointed as an Additional Judge of High Court of Uttarakhand, on May 26, 2025. He took oath and assumed charge of his office on 30.05.2025.
