The Central Government on Monday (October 5) notified the appointment of Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak as Acting Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court. 

This, after the elevation of outgoing Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal on her elevation as a judge of the Supreme Court. 

The notification issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice states:

"In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak, Judge of the Gujarat High Court to perform the duties of office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Smt. Justice Sunita Agarwal relinquishes the charge of the office of Chief Justice consequent upon her elevation as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India".

Justice Agarwal's appointment of Supreme Court judge was notified earlier today by the Central Government.
