The Gujarat High Court on Monday (December 8) asked Dwarka Municipality to inform on steps taken to curb menace of stray cattle/bulls in the area while hearing a PIL which claimed that several lives have been lost after being hit by such stray cattle.

A division bench of Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal and Justice DN Ray asked the Chief Officer of Dwarka Nagarpalika to file an affidavit "to bring before us what steps have been taken to curb the menace of stray cattle/bulls".

During the hearing the petitioner highlighted the menace of roaming cattle/bulls on public places which has resulted in loss of lives of many.

The assertion in the plea was that atleast around 2,000 stray bulls are roaming/wandering in the streets of Dwarka which is a religious place having tourist attraction all over the country.

The court noted that there was a reference to various incidents reported in newspapers about loss of life of common man on account of being hit by stray bulls.

The counsel for the municipality submitted that drives have been undertaken from time to time for catching the stray bulls which are then put in a gowshala/shelter.

The court thereafter granted time to the counsel to file the municipality's response.
