After Staying Menstrual Leave Order, Karnataka High Court Agrees To Hear State Tomorrow
Hours after staying the Karnataka Government's order to grant menstrual leave, the Karnataka High Court today afternoon decided to hear the State and other parties tomorrow on the interim relief.
It may be noted that while hearing the petitions at 10.30 am, the Court had, by way of an interim order, stayed the November 20 government notification.
However, before the lunch break, Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty mentioned the matter before the court and said that the interim order passed is in contravention of the Supreme Court's judgment. Further, he stated that he would personally appear in the matter on Wednesday and make a submission on the prayer for interim relief.
The court then recorded “Prashant B K, counsel for the petitioner and AG Shashi Kiran Shetty on behalf of the government appeared in person. The government advocate is directed to accept notice for the respondent. Mr Prashant submits that there is urgency in the matter and the petitioner may be heard for interim relief. AG seeks time, list tomorrow.”
The Court is hearing a petition filed by Bangalore Hotels Association and Management of Avirata AFL Connectivity Systems Limited, challenging the November 20 government notification, mandating industrial establishments registered under various laws, to provide one day paid menstrual leave per month to all permanent, contract, outsourced women employees.
