The Karnataka High Court on Friday [October 16] quashed the FIR registered against Amit Malviya, former in-charge of the National Information & Technology Department of the Bharatiya Janata Party, over his posts on X (formerly Twitter) concerning Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

A Single Bench of Justice M. Nagaprasanna allowed the criminal petition filed by Malviya, and quashed the proceedings in Crime No. 133/2025 registered by the High Grounds Police Station, currently pending before a Bengaluru Court. [Detailed Order Awaited]

The petitioner BJP leader is stated to have posted an edited photo of Rahul Gandhi (Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha) on his 'X' handle, and also posted that, despite the clarification given by the DGMO, Rahul Gandhi is speaking the language of Pakistan and its beneficiaries.

He further allegedly stated that Rahul Gandhi questioned the armed forces regarding the number of fighter jets that were lost during Operation Sindoor, and also stated that Rahul Gandhi never similarly enquired about the loss and damage incurred by Pakistan.

Being aggrieved by the said posts, a complaint was registered against the BJP Leader by a Congress worker, invoking offences punishable under Sections 192 and 353 of the BNS, 2023.

On Friday, the Court proceeded to allow the criminal petition and quashed the FIR registered against Malviya.
