Jiostar India Pvt. Ltd. has moved the Kerala High Court challenging the halt on the release of Hotstar Webseries 'Anali' allegedly based on the Koodathayi serial murders.

The release of the series was halted based on an order of Munsiff Court, Ernakulam in an injunction suit filed by prime accused Jollyamma Joseph @ Jolly Joseph. Jolly is accused of murdering six of her family members, including her first husband Roy Thomas, using cyanide, with the motive to take control of the family property. Her trial is under progress before the Additional District Court (Special Court for Trial for Maradu Cases), Kozhikode.

Though Jiostar sought to vacate the order, the Munsiff Court refused to do so and passed an order granting temporary injunction. Subsequently, Jiostar appealed against the order before the Sub Court, Ernakulam, which dismissed the appeal and refused to set aside the order halting the series.

At this juncture, Jiostar has moved the present petition before the High Court.

When the matter came up today, Justice Easwaran S. posted the case tomorrow (November 6) for hearing.

Senior Advocate Santhosh Mathew appearing for Jiostar argued that both the courts below went wrong in deciding the case. He pointed out that Jolly had earlier moved a writ petition before the High Court but it was dismissed directing her to pursue the statutory remedies available to her. The senior counsel clarified that he is not arguing that there is a bar on filing the suit but that the suit should not have been entertained when the writ court had found that there is an effective alternative remedy.
