The Kerala High Court on Friday (December 5) directed the Inspector General of Police, Ernakulam range to consider the representation made by film producer Sheela Kurian seeking action against Deputy Superintendent of Police, Madhu Babu, alleging improper behaviour by him when she visited his office in connection with a criminal complaint.

When the matter came up for consideration before Justice C. Pratheep Kumar, Sheela's counsel submitted that though representations were made before several authorities to action with respect to the incident that occurred around 10 months ago, nothing has yet been taken.

According to her plea, she was called into the office of the DySP on February 19 in connection with another criminal complaint that she had preferred. However, when she went there at about 6 p.m., Madhu, who was acting as the DySP, verbally abused and behaved rudely to her.

After the incident, on February 24, she filed a complaint before the District Police Chief but the same has not yet been acted upon and no FIR has been registered yet.

Though she preferred representations before the Secretary to the government, the State Police Chief, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), and the Inspector General of Police (IG) on September 24, no action was taken on these, it is stated. Aggrieved, she had come before the High Court seeking consideration of her representations.

She had sought for the Court's interference stating that since the complaint was made against a senior police officer having influence, the enquiry and investigation against him should be headed by the Police Chief, ADGP and IG.

The Court disposed of the plea with a direction to the Inspector General to consider her representation asking for registration of crime against Madhu Babu and to take appropriate action required under law.

The petition is moved by Advocates Manu Ramachandran, M. Kiranlal, R. Rajesh (Varkala), T.S. Sarath, Sameer M. Nair, Sailakshmi Menon, Aashi K. Shajan, Ravisankar C.R.
