Former Congress MLA Moves Kerala High Court Challenging BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar's Election Win

Former Congress MLA K.S. Sabarinadhan has approached the Kerala High Court challenging the election win of BJP State President, Rajeev Chandrasekhar from Thiruvananthapuram's Nemom constituency. 

K.S. Sabarinadhan, who is currently serving as the ward councillor for the Kowdior ward of the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, was the candidate in Nemom from Indian National Congress (INC) during the 2026 Assembly election. 

Sabarinadhan secured only 29,730 votes from the constituency. While Rajeev Chandrasekhar won from the constituency with a margin of 4,978 votes by securing total of 57,192 votes and defeating former Minister of General Education of the State,  V. Sivankutty from Communist Party of India (Marxist) who secured 52,214 votes. 

The election of Rajeev Chandrasekhar is challenged on the ground that his assets have not been disclosed before the Election Commission. 

When the matter was taken up today, before Justice Ziyad Rahman A. A, the counsel for the petitioner sought time to cure the defects in filing. 

The Court granted time to cure the defects and posted the matter after two weeks. 

In the 2026 Kerala State Assembly election, BJP had won three seats, in the Nemom, Kazhakoottam and Chathannur constituencies. Notably,  another election petition challenging V. Muraleedharan's win from Kazhakoottam has also been filed.
