The Rajasthan High Court has stayed further investigation into a criminal case arising from a dispute between two CLAT coaching institutions over claims of mentoring a top-ranking student. The matter involves a minor girl who secured a high All India Rank (AIR) in the Common Law Admission Test.

The First Information Report (FIR) alleged that the student's father attempted to leverage a lucrative offer from a rival coaching institute to influence the original institution, amounting to threats and purported blackmail. Senior Advocate Vineet Jain and a team of advocates appeared for the petitioner, while Advocate Vikram Rajpurohit represented the State.

Justice Baljinder Singh Sandhu observed that, on the face of it, the dispute appears to be more of a commercial rivalry between coaching institutions than a substantive criminal matter. The Court emphasized that such disputes should not arise where a student is involved and urged both parties to exercise restraint.

In view of the circumstances, the Court directed that the matter be referred to mediation. The petitioner's father is required to appear in the mediation proceedings, either in person or via video conference. The Mediation Centre has been scheduled to hear the case on January 21, 2026, with a report to be submitted to the Court by February 16, 2026. Meanwhile, the FIR investigation under Crime No. 04/26 remains stayed.

The Court underscored the importance of resolving the dispute amicably at the mediation stage to prevent escalation and further litigation.
