Rajasthan High Court Constitutes Committee To Oversee Sanitation, Healthcare, Law & Order At Ramdevra Temple
The Rajasthan High Court has constituted a committee to coordinate with the Trust of the Ramdevra Temple, in Jaisalmer, to oversee the sanitation, healthcare and law & order requirement of the devotees, and create basic infrastructure facilities in this regard.
The division bench of Justice Munnuri Laxman and Justice Chandra Shekhar Sharma was hearing a PIL that alleged lack of appropriate infrastructure and basic facilities like sanitation and healthcare, to cater to an excess influx of around 2-3 lakhs devotees, on a daily basis, during particular months.
It was submitted that owing to the heavy inflow, the devotees were not getting any basic facilities, resulting in chaos like situations near the temple and possibility of various diseases thereby violation the fundamental right to life.
After hearing the contentions, the Court observed,
“…the healthcare, law and order are required to be taken care of by the State. The State is under obligation to take appropriate steps to prevent any untowards incidents like stampede and spread of contagious diseases due to visit of more number of devotees in co-ordination with various agencies/institutions so as to meet the above requirements…”
In this background, the Court directed constitution of a committee under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner, Jodhpur, to oversee the arrangement in coordination with the temple's trust.
The Committee has been entrusted to see the requirements of the devotees, especially sanitation, medical healthcare and law & order, and to take necessary steps to create the basic infrastructure facilities, till the time the crowd reduced.
Furthermore, the State has been directed to extend support to the committee in creating the necessary infrastructure.
The Court ordered the Committee to take decisions on the next steps, expeditiously, within 1 week.
